Have you wondered what is traveling through your fascia? That wonderful three dimensional web that supports and supplies every cell of your body. Every nerve is supported through fascia, so if a nerve is pinched or crushed by your fascia until that fascia is released you will have pain. If you go to a doctor, they might run some tests, and give you some medications, and when that is not enough suggest injections or surgery to “kill the nerve”.
Let’s go through this step by step. First fascia does not show up in standard imaging, so “it is just soft tissue damage” Duh…That would be your fascia. Next, they give you some pain pills that will mask the pain but it doesn’t get to the root of the problem. Then there are all of the addiction issues, I don’t know about you but I don’t want to head down that path. Maybe just some anti-inflammatory medications, once again masking the problem and not solving it. The next stop on this western medicine roller coaster, is the surgeon. They may want to cut the nerve so that you don’t feel the pain but surgery always has risks and scar tissue in one of those. Scar tissue is a fascial restriction so it will cause its own issues.
Well then what is the answer?
Myofascial Release. Gentle pressure, over time along with warmth, allows your fascia to melt and reorganize to the supporting structure it was designed to be. These sustained holds also release your body’s natural anti-inflammatory compounds.
Can it be a fast fix? Sometimes, but usually, it will take a series of treatments to get full relief. I have been through this journey and am ready to guide you through to a better functioning body, with less pain and able to do the activities that you have given up.
